Monsters & Mysteries

Get your kids excited about reading this summer. Join us for a book event that introduces kids to new books in different genres. The theme for June 7th is Monsters and Mysteries.

The event is based upon the grade level the kids will be entering in the fall. Due to many scheduling conflicts, we will be having two afternoon sessions for grades 3 and above. Your child can sign up for either session.

K-2: 10-11:30 a.m.
3-8: 1-2:30 pm
3-8: 3-4:30 pm

The cost of the event is $15.00 and each child will go home with their choice of a new book.

We have at least 7 books in each age level that we will introduce the kids to and they will choose which book(s) interest them the most. We will also be doing some book based activities. This is a great way to keep your kids reading all summer long.

Sign up your kids here.

Summer Book Tasting

It is our goal at Whimsy on Main to find the perfect books for all ages and tastes. We believe that everyone can be a reader with the right book in their hands.

We have been curating a list of books that we think kids will love and we are so excited to launch a program this Summer to introduce these books. Whimsy on Main will be hosting four Book Tasting events.

What is a Book Tasting?

A Book Tasting gives kids a chance to sample different books to see which book they would like to read.

There will be four themes for the Summer. With each theme there will be at least 4 books to choose from. We will introduce the books to the kids and they will choose one (or two for the younger kids) to take home.

Each event will also include book based activities. Kids can sign up for as many Book Tastings as they would like. They will be separated into age groups and reading levels.

Book Tasting Details:

June 7: Monsters & Mysteries

June 21: Adventure

July 5: Fantasy

July 26: Friendship

Times:

K-2: 10-11:30am

3-5: 1-2:30pm

Middle Grades: 3:00-4:30pm

Teen/YA: We will not have a separate time for this age group. They can stop in anytime to preview the books for their age group. This will focus on new releases and Indie Authors.

Cost is $15 per session or $50 for prepayment of all four sessions.

Sleeping Beauty

The first production for Whimsy Kids Theatre will be held Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. Arrangements are still being made for the location of the performance.

All children ages 5-15 may audition and everyone will be cast in the production. The cost to participate is $25 to cover the costs and a t-shirt.

Auditions will be held throughout the day on Wednesday, July 13 and Thursday, July 14 at Whimsy on Main. Your child can stop anytime during business hours (9am-5:30pm) to audition. If these dates and times do not work, please call (605) 230-0477 to make other arrangements.

Practices will be flexible to accommodate the cast members during the week of July 25-28. Not all cast will need to be at all practices.  Scripts will be given out so children can start to learn there parts prior to the first rehearsal.
